Acne Medication

There are many different types of acne medication out on the market. However, not all types will work for everyone. This is why I have chosen to pinpoint a common list of acne medication treatments that are out there. It is always a good idea to get basic information about any acne medication before you try it as certain types of acne medication are not effective on certain people.

#1 Common Acne Medication: Adapalene

This medication is usually prescribed by a doctor and comes in liquid, gel, or cream form. As compared with over the counter acne medication treatments, this one may be a bit more expensive. Besides the cost, it can work extremely well for some people. Do not be alarmed if you condition worsens within the first few days of taking this acne medication. That is very typical and after a week or so you should notice improvements.

#2 Common Acne Medication: Benzoyl peroxide

Benzoyl peroxide is a type of acne medication that can be prescribed but more often is bought over the counter. The difference between the one prescribed by a doctor or purchased at a pharmacy is the strength of the acne medication. This type of acne medication can be very beneficial for many people, but it will most likely result in dry skin. This can be avoided by following the acne medication with a good moisturizing lotion.

#3 Common Acne Medication: Antibiotics

If the first two acne medications do not work for you, then it is most likely best to seek the advice of a dermatologist and ask about antibiotics. Antibiotics can include a drug such as erythromycin. This acne medication usually has very good results from people with severe acne. It is does vary from individual to individual though. Make sure, as with any antibiotic, that you follow the instructions closely. If you see any abnormal side effects, contact your doctor immediately.

#4 Common Acne Medication: Accutane

If you have the most severe case of acne, then Accutane is most likely the best bet for you. This really should be used as a last resort since Accutance is one acne medication that does have lots of side effects. Only use this drug under close monitoring by your doctor and use it correctly.
